2004 Maison Grand Cru Pinot Noir

The Rutz Cellars Maison Grand Cru designation represents the finest blend of the vintage. Only select Pinot Noir from vineyards located in the Russian River appellation went into this blend. The 2004 vintage produced outstanding fruit from all of our vineyard sources, including the Dutton Ranch and Martinelli vineyards. The grapes were harvested from September 10 through October 3. All lots received a minimum four day cold soak, during which time the must was punched down by hand four times a day, and given an extended maceration of four additional days. After fermentation, the lots were moved to French oak barrels and aged for an additional nine months in the controlled environment of the Rutz Cellars cave. Rutz Cellars uses only French oak barrels from five distinguished wine coopers: Louis Latour, Francois Freres, Claude Gillet, Seguin Moreau and Marchive. The wine was racked twice, is unfined, and went through a very light filtration at bottling.

Ruby red in color. Black cherry and plum aromas with notes of cedar and herb. Herb-laced black cherry, cola and raspberry flavors. Spice and a hint of tannin come forward as it moves to the long finish.
