2000 Maison Grand Cru Pinot Noir

The Rutz Cellars Maison Grand Cru designation represents the finest blend of the vintage. Only select Pinot Noir from vineyards located in the Gold Ridge Mantle and Green Valley areas of the Russian River appellation went into this blend. The 2000 vintage produced outstanding fruit from all of our vineyard sources, including the Dutton Ranch and Martinelli vineyards. The grapes were harvested from September 16 through October 3. All lots received a minimum four-day cold soak, during which time the must was punched down by hand four times a day, and given an extended maceration of four additional days. After fermentation, the lots were moved to French oak barrels and aged for an additional nine months in the controlled environment of the Rutz Cellars cave. Rutz Cellars uses only French oak barrels from four distinguished wine coopers: Louis Latour, Francois Freres, Claude Gillet and Seguin Moreau. The wine is racked twice, is unfined and goes through a very light filtration at bottling.

Bright garnet in color. Intense ripe cherry and floral aromas with hints of dried rose petals. Plush, plumy, black cherry fruit flavors that are expansive on the mid-pallet have a lingering depth. The finish is long and toasty with hints of more dark fruit and caramel.
