2000 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir

Dutton Ranch vineyards are at the heart of Rutz Cellars’ product mix. This prestigious and highly sought after vineyard spans the Green Valley sub-appellation of the Russian River Valley – source of the majority of Rutz Cellars’ fruit. The 2000 vineyard designate pinot comes from several Dutton Ranch properties, including Winkler vineyard, which was specially planted for Rutz Cellars. The individual grape lots were hand sorted, destemmed, and moved to small open top fermentors. There they were cold soaked and punched down by hand over a four-day period, and given four additional days of extended maceration. After completing fermentation, the wines were moved to French oak barrels and aged for an additional 10 months in the controlled environment of the Rutz Cellars cave. The French cooperage used was Louis Latour, Francois Freres and Seguin Moreau. The wine was racked twice, is unfined, and goes through a very light filtration at bottling.

Ruby red in appearance. Smokey, spicy, black cherry nose. Round dark fruit on the palate, reminiscent of plums and black cherries with underlying layers of allspice and sandalwood. The finish is long and toasty with hints of more dark fruit and caramel.
