The
grapes for the 1999 Russian River Pinot Noir are 100% from select
Russian River Valley vineyards, including Dutton Ranch, Martinelli
Vineyards and Weir Vineyard. After cold soaking (4 days) and extended
maceration (5 days), the wine was fermented and aged in French oak
barrels for 14 months. The French Oak barrel program at Rutz Cellars is
very extensive and the winery utilizes 5 different coopers, including
Louis Latour, Francois Freres, Claude Gillet, Toutant and Sequin Moreau for entry, middle and finishing flavors.
The wines aroma is fruit forward with hints of Bing
cherries and dried rose petals and leather. The flavors are full and
rich with moderate tannins and spiciness with a very long finish.
