1999 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir

Dutton Ranch vineyards are at the heart of Rutz Cellars product line, since the greatest part of the fruit that we source comes from various Dutton Ranch vineyards located throughout the Russian River Valley, Green Valley and Sonoma Coast appellations. This prestigious and highly sought after vineyard designated wine comes from several Dutton Ranches, including Winkler vineyard, which was specially planted for Rutz Cellars. The final blend incorporated the handling of three different wine lots and 2 separate yeasts. The individual lots were cold soaked and punched down by hand over a 4-day period and given an extended maceration for 4 additional days. The wines were then moved to French oak barrels and after fermentation were aged in oak for an additional 10 months in the constant humidity and temperature of the Rutz Cellars caves. The Rutz Cellars cave complex is an integral part of the winemaking equation for our Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines, providing the optimal fermenting and aging environment as well as an actual working space. The French cooperage used was Louis Latour (60%), Francois Freres (20%) and Sequin Moreau (20%) barrels.

The wine has very focused Pinot Noir varietal aromas accented by scents of cherry/berry, oriental spice and sandalwood. Incredibly rich flavors are full and round with delicious fruit qualities in both the middle palate and the long lingering finish.
