The
grapes for our 1998 Russian River Chardonnay were harvested in mid to
late October, were given a gentle press and then cold soaked prior to
yeast inoculation. 97% of the grapes came from Russian River vineyards
including Dutton Ranch (47%), Quail Hill (23%), Buena Tierra (22%) and
Martinelli vineyards (5%) and 3% from Sleepy Hollow Vineyard in Monterey
County. The juice was moved by gravity flow to French Oak barrels and
completed fermentation in the constant temperature and high humidity of
our caves. The wine was 100% barrel fermented and was aged sur
lie with lees stirring every two weeks. This wine was not put
through malolactic fermentation. Racked and blended in late June the
wine was bottled in late September. From harvest to bottling, this wine
was nurtured with minimal handling and maximum care, exemplifying our
commitment to making the finest wine possible.
Fruit forward with intense aromas, the wine is bursting with orange
peel, peaches, honey and toasted spice flavors on the nose and palate.
The wine’s flavors are full and rich with great acidity and a very satisfying finish. 1210 cases produced
