1998 Maison Grand Cru Chardonnay

Rutz Cellars Maison Grand Cru is our best blend of our best wines of the vintage. The 1998 Maison Grand Cru Chardonnay consists of 85% Russian River and 15% Monterey fruit.

The vineyards include Dutton Ranch (18%), Quail Hill (67%) and Sleepy Hollow (15%). The grapes were picked and sorted by hand with special care to eliminate all but the most perfect bunches. After cold settling the wine was fermented in medium toast French Oak barrels (100%) from Louis Latour ,Claude Gillet and Francois Freres. The wine was aged sur lie and hand stirred every 2 weeks. This wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. The wine was aged for 11 months in 60% new and 40% used barrels.

The aromas of the wine are of orange-citrus, hazelnut and toasted spice. The mouth is very full and expansive with a viscous middle flavors and feel with a long finish. 560 cases produced.
