1997 Weir Vineyard Pinot Noir

The Weir vineyard is located in Mendocino County, on the south- facing slope of the high land troughs between Anderson Valley and Alexander Valley, three miles northwest of Yorkville.  The high elevation of the vineyard combined with the marine influence, provide the perfect microclimate for Pinot Noir grapes - a long, cool, growing season that enhances the development of complex flavors and aromas.

The grapes for the 1997 Pinot Noir were harvested by hand at the end of September, de-stemmed and crushed.  During fermentation the cap of solids was punched down for extraction of color and flavor.  The free-run juice was transferred to a combination of one-, two-, and three-year-old French oak barrels where it completed malolactic fermentation.  Racked off its lees in mid-May the wine was then aged in cave until late August.  To insure maximum flavor and ageability, the wine was bottled unfined and unfiltered.

Lush and velvety, deep and wonderfully layered in its flavors, the 1997 Weir Pinot Noir is bursting with intense dark plum and cherry fruit and a twist of spice on the long lasting finish.  321 Cases Produced
