The
1997 Maison Grand Cru Chardonnay consists of 100% Russian River fruit.
This wine represents the house blend comprised of the best barrel lots
from each separate vineyard. The vineyard lots for the 1997 Maison Grand Cru include the
prestigious Dutton Ranch, Quail Hill Vineyard and Buena Tierra Vineyard.
The grapes were picked and
sorted by hand with special care taken to eliminate all but the most
perfect bunches. After cold settling the wine was fermented in 100%
French oak barrels. After
malolactic fermentation was completed the wine was aged sur-lie
and hand stirred every 2 weeks. The
wine reposed in barrel for 11 months in the constant temperature and
humidity of Rutz Cellars caves. The aromas include peaches, orange-citrus, and
toasted spice. The wine is intensely flavored with notes of hazelnut,
custard and ripe pear. 657 Cases Produced
