The grapes
for this chardonnay were hand-harvested in vineyards located in the
cool, coastal Russian River Valley - an appellation known for consistent
production of distinctive chardonnay. The winemaker pressed the
hand-sorted fruit, and gently, by gravity flow, transferred the must to
new French oak barrels. Following primary fermentation using Montrachet
yeast, the wine then completed, in is own time, malolactic fermentation.
The wine developed and aged in oak for eleven months, interrupted by
only minimal handling. All winemaking activity occurred in the Rutz
Cellars cave, where ambient temperature and humidity favor the
development of a wine's finest qualities.
This distinguished chardonnay is a balanced, graceful wine. In both
aroma and taste, the fine chardonnay fruit is respectfully accented by
French oak. The delicate nose is toasty, with spice and floral tones.
Ample flavors of butter and vanilla underscore the fresh tastes of peach
and pear. The rich finish, supported by natural acidity, lingers fully
on the palate. |
