Rutz Cellars winery has partnered with the Smith & Wollensky Restaurant Group to provide our authentic, Burgundy-style Pinot Noir in a by-the-glass pour at all sixteen of the Group's restaurants. Our 2001 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is the only pinot appearing on the by-the-glass list.

Founded in 1977 by Alan Stillman - the man who created T.G.I. Friday's - the original Smith & Wollensky restaurant in Manhattan is the largest grossing restaurant in New York, and the third largest in the country. In 1997, the company began expanding its concept into other major markets, and currently opererates ten Smith & Wollensky restaurants across the country, as well as seven other restaurants in New York. They have a combined capacity of over 5,000 seats.

Smith & Wollensky believes that fine wine is an integral part of the dining experience. The company boasts an extensive wine inventory of over 102,000 bottles in 2,300 listings. The New York steakhouse alone has 25,000 bottles, and received Wine Spectator's "Grand Award" from 1987-1994, and the "Award of Excellence" from 1995-2000.

Our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is a perfect wine for pairing with the restaurant's dry-aged beef, lamb, and veal dishes. Diners who are used to the heavy Cabernets and too-sweet Merlots of a typical steakhouse wine list will soon discover what the French have known for centuries: A finely crafted pinot noir complements a meal instead of competing with it. Rutz Cellars' traditional methods and careful craftsmanship get back to the roots of authentic pinot noir, as Smith & Wollensky's customers will soon discover.
