On August 13th, 2001, Rutz Cellars released five new wines to the marketplace. These wines were available to distributors on that date, and will soon be showing up in restaurants and retail stores.

Chardonnay
Two new Chardonnays are being released: the 1998 Russian River Chardonnay (87 points - Wine Enthusiast), and the 1998 Maison Grand Cru Chardonnay(87 points - Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator). While it may seem that we are a year behind the market in this release, these Chardonnays were held back for a very good reason. Russian River Valley fruit tends to have a very complex and highly desirable acid structure; its one of the things that makes this appellation so unique. At Rutz Cellars, we have found that these acids - which give our wines their long shelf life - need extra time in the bottle in order to round-out the flavors.

Pinot Noir
We are also releasing three new Pinot Noirs. As of August 13th, the 1999 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir, the 1999 Maison Grand Cru Pinot Noir and the 1999 Dutton Ranch Pinot Noir will all be available. These wines went to press this month, and we have very high expectations for all of them.  The Dutton Ranch in particular will be highly sought after. With only 230 cases of this special vineyard-designate wine produced, it will go fast.
